Day 1 with John Schwarz of Florida:
Highlights:
-American Three-toed Woodpecker (male): Hedbom logging Trail Rd. 2.6 =
miles west of the east gate on the south side of the road. =20
-Black-backed Woodpecker (male): Same location as Am. three-toed =
Woodpecker.
-White-winged Crossbills Hedbom: Logging Trail Rd. and Sax Zim Bog.
-Boreal Chickadee: Blue Spruce Rd. in Sax Zim Bog.
-Northern Hawk Owl: 1/4 mile north of the Martin Rd. on Hwy 4 (Rice Lake =
Rd.) behind Coffee Cabin.
-Snowy Owl: Duluth Port Terminal area. Owl was hunting in the field =
behind the cement plant.
-Harlequin Ducks (pair) at Canal Park in Duluth.
-White-winged Scoter same location as H. Ducks.
-possible Gyr diving at pigeons near the Cargil Elevator and then flew =
out over the bay towards Park Pt. There is a adult Peregrine Falcon in =
this area but only had a fleeting glimpse of the falcon before if flew =
off over the bay.
Cold day for birding but no wind. The air temp. in the wee morning in =
Floodwood was -14 degrees below zero.
