MRVAC meeting this Thursday. NOTE LOCATION for this meeting
Dr. Deborah Swackhammer, the Interim Director of the University of =
Minnesota's new Institute on the Environment will be the featured =
speaker at the Minnesota River Valley Audubon Chapter this Thursday =
evening with her program:=20
Environmental Estrogens - A New Threat to Wildlife: What are they, =
where do they go and what should we do?
Many chemicals found in common household products and drugs get into our =
rivers and lakes. Once in the water they can mimic estrogen or other =
hormones when taken up by fish or birds. The research done in Dr. =
Swackhamer's lab looks at the questions surrounding this issue, such as =
what are the chemicals of concern and how we can minimize or prevent =
their impacts. Her research focuses on the chemical and biological =
processes that control the fate of toxic organic contaminants in water, =
particularly the Great Lakes. If you heard her speak on Minnesota =
Public Radio's Midday broadcast March 16, 2006 about the safety of our =
water supply, you know why we are so excited to hear her presentation.
Meeting schedule: Please join us at 7:00 pm at the Minnesota Valley =
Unitarian Universalist Fellowship building. We encourage you to =
socialize over coffee and cookies from 7-7:30 pm. A brief business =
meeting and the featured speaker begin at 7:30 pm. The meeting concludes =
at 9:00 pm.
DIRECTIONS: The Minnesota Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is =
located at 10715 Zenith Ave S in Bloomington, south of Old Shakopee Road =
between France Avenue and Penn Avenue.
