Butch Ukura and I birded around the northern parts of Aitkin County
today and found a few interesting birds.
Along the Hedbom Forest Road: 2 THREE-TOED WOODPECKERS ( about 9.3
miles east from the west entrance), 6 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS (also in
the same area), 4 BOREAL CHICKADEES ( about 5.6 miles east from the west
entrance), 2 PINE GROSBEAKS, a BALD EAGLE and a small flock of SNOW
BUNTINGS.
Along Aitkin County Road 18: a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER (about one
quarter mile east of the Hebron Cemetery), 50 - 60 COMMON REDPOLLS, 4
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, a NORTHERN HARRIER, 3 BALD EAGLES and a RUFFED GROUSE..
In Palisade: a NORTHERN SHRIKE and PINE GROSBEAKS. Warren Nelson
