This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, February 28th 2008.
A HARLEQUIN DUCK is still being seen on the Mississippi River near Point
Douglas, Washington County, and it was most recently reported on the
26th.
The NORTHERN HAWK OWL in the Sax-Zim Bog was relocated on the 24th along
St. Louis County Road 7, half a mile south of Stone Lake Road.
The most unusual report of the day comes from Anoka County where a
BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was reported on the 28th at Bunker Hills
Regional Park near Andover. The bird was seen in the trees along the
east side of "A" road about a quarter of a mile north of the Bunker
Beach water park.
The TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE that has been behind the Science Museum of
Minnesota in St. Paul was still present on the 23rd. On the same day, a
TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was in a grove of evergreens at Lake Rebecca Park
Reserve in western Hennepin County, though I have no directions. And the
TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was still present in Sherburne County on the 27th,
along the snowmobile trail at Ann Lake. From the junction of County Road
5 and 253rd Street, go east for a mile, park in the small parking lot,
and walk the southern trail for about a quarter of a mile.
Also in Sherburne County, the VARIED THRUSH is still being seen in
Princeton, on Sherburne County Road 1, half a mile north of state
highway 95 at fire call #2465.
A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was found on the 27th in east Duluth at the
corner of 60th Avenue East and Tioga Street.
The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday, March 6th 2008.
