This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, March 6th, 2008
sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was seen on February 29th by Don Mattsson in Two
Harbors at 1st Street and 2nd Avenue. Jan Green saw a HOARY REDPOLL on
the 4th at her feeders along Old North Shore Road in Duluth Township.

An early BELTED KINGFISHER was found by Mike Furtman on the 1st along
the St. Louis River near Chambers Grove Park in the Fond du Lac
neighborhood of Duluth. The VARIED THRUSH and BOREAL CHICKADEE at a
feeder in east Duluth were seen over the weekend, and those interested
in looking for the birds should call the homeowners (Christina and Dave)
at 218-728-0808. A SNOWY OWL was seen on the 1st along Railroad Street
at 12th Avenue West in Duluth.

SHARP-TAILED GROUSE were seen on the 6th on the traditional lek on the
east side of CR 29 just north of the Dart Road near Meadowlands. The
NORTHERN HAWK OWL in the Sax-Zim Bog was relocated on the 5th along CR
7, between 0.5 and 1.0 mile south of the Stone Lake Road. Joel Claus
relocated an AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKER and a BLACK-BACKED
WOODPECKER along the Admiral Road (CR 788), 0.1 to 0.2 mile north of the
Zim Road (CR 27). BOREAL CHICKADEES were seen on the 6th at a deer
carcass hung in a tree along the Admiral Road 2.6 miles south of the Zim
Road, and at the feeding station along the Blue Spruce Road one mile
north of CR 133. HOARY REDPOLLS were seen as recently as the 2nd at the
Blue Spruce Road feeding station, as well as EVENING GROSBEAKS, PINE
GROSBEAKS, and COMMON REDPOLLS.
