Hey birders,
Open water continues to be scarce in these parts. Loon Lake southwest of Lake Crystal seems to have the most open water but Cobb River WPA northeast of Mapleton is also showing some open water.
Loon Lake and vicinity this morning yielded: 18 Trumpeter swans (adjacent corn field), Canada Goose, Canvasback, Redhead, Ring-necked Duck, Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, Green-winged Teal, Mallard, Ruddy Duck, Northern Shoveler, Gadwall.
Cobb River WPA yielded: 2 Trumpeter Swans, Canada and Cackling Geese, Ring-necked Duck, American Wigeon, Mallard, Gadwall, Northern Shoveler, Green-winged Teal, Northern Pintail, Common Goldeneye. Most of these ponds are still frozen over.
Other arrivals: Peregrine Falcon in Mankato, Cooper's Hawk in Mankato, Song Sparrow, Great Blue Heron, Eastern and Western Meadowlarks
Happy Birding!
