A SNOWY OWL remains along Hwy. 11 about 4 miles east of Roseau in Roseau Co. Watch for it perched on power poles or hunting in fields nearby.

GREAT GRAY OWLS are still being seen along Hwy. 310 north of Roseau. The best area is the last 3-4 miles before the Canadian border. Also check areas along this road for NORTHERN HAWK OWL, BOREAL CHICKADEE, BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, and THREE-TOED WOODPECKER.

Check around the Faunce tower in the Beltrami Island State Forest, Lake of the Woods Co., for both RED CROSSBILLS and WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS.

On the 14th, RED CROSSBILLS were along CR 20 about 8 miles east of the entrance to Lake Bemidji State Park in Beltrami Co. WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were found about 6 miles north of Blackduck and two miles east of Hwy. 72 along a gravel road with a spruce plantation, also in Beltrami Co.

Another SNOWY OWL was still present this week near the Bemidji airport and hospital in Beltrami Co.

A NORTHERN HAWK OWL was found in Clearwater Co. on the 16th, along CR 26 about 4 miles southeast of the town of Bagley.

Last weekend in the Rothsay WMA, Wilkin Co., an adult GOLDEN EAGLE was seen along CR 26, along with over 100 GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKENS.

During a Red Lake County Big Day on the 11th, 23 species were found, including sharp-shinned hawk, gray partridge, sharp-tailed grouse, barred owl, northern cardinal, Lapland longspur, snow bunting and pine siskin.

Other birds reported this week were bald eagle, great horned owl, northern shrike, pileated and red-bellied woodpeckers, horned lark, common raven, Bohemian waxwing, white-throated sparrow, pine grosbeak and American goldfinch.
