HORNED LARKS, SNOW BUNTINGS and LAPLAND LONGSPURS were reported in greater numbers in northwestern Minnesota this past week, as they begin their early northward migration.

Lake Bronson State Park, Kittson Co., reports both RUFFED GROUSE and SHARP-TAILED GROUSE this past week, along with NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL, PINE GROSBEAK, PINE SISKIN and AMERICAN GOLDFINCH.

Glenn Browne, near Lancaster, also in Kittson Co. has had a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL visiting his yard and dining on rodents near the bird feeders for the past couple of weeks. Glenn also reports a NORTHERN SHRIKE there on the 19th .

Both GREAT GRAY OWLS and NORTHERN HAWK OWLS have been reported from Hwy. 310 north of the town of Roseau, as well as along Hwy. 89 in Roseau Co. over the past week. Other places to look for these birds are along roads and trails in the Beltrami Island State Forest in Roseau and Lake of the Woods Counties, and along Hwy. 72 between Baudette and Waskish in Lake of the Woods and Beltrami Counties.

Doug Johnson found a NORTHERN HAWK OWL in Clearwater Co. on the 17th. The bird was on CR 26 about 3 miles west of CR 2.

Doug also saw a MERLIN near 11th St. and 24th Ave. S. in Moorhead, Clay Co. on the 18th and a NORTHERN GOSHAWK just south of the town of Syre in Norman Co. that day.

At the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge in Becker Co. this past week, birds reported include BALD EAGLE, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, WILD TURKEY, PINE GROSBEAK, EVENING GROSBEAK, PURPLE FINCH, PINE SISKIN, and AMERICAN GOLDFINCH.
