This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, April 11, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Mike Hendrickson reported that TUNDRA SWANS, at least 50, are back on the St. Louis River in the Gary/New Duluth area. Scott Wolfe had a WESTERN MEADOWLARK at his feeder on the 7th. RING-NECKED DUCKS were seen on the 6th. Other newly-reported migrants include PIED-BILLED GREBE, WOOD DUCK, NORTHERN SHOVELER, BLUE-WINGED TEAL, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, and YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, all on the 7th.

Chris Mansfield reported SHORT-EARED OWL at the airport at Park Point on the 7th. She also spotted a single GLAUCOUS GULL on the ice near the DECC. A SNOWY OWL was still present this week in Aitkin County, six miles north of the town of Aitkin on Cty Rd. 1. Frank and Kate Nicoletti reported 350 COMMON REDPOLLS and 4 HOARY REDPOLLS at their feeders. There are still flocks of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS moving around Duluth.

Suzanne Gucciardo reported a SANDHILL CRANE from Grand Portage on the 8th. Karen Sussman has a BARRED OWL in her yard in Britt.

Among many other birds, the counters at the West Skyline Hawkwatch spotted an adult Harlan's RED-TAILED HAWK on the 7th. They counted over 500 Red-tails on both Saturday and Sunday.
