This is the Duluth Birding Report for Friday, August 29th, 2008 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
A LARK SPARROW was found on the 24th by Chris Mansfield on Park Point near the recreational area bathhouse. Chris also found a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER with about 20 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, SEMIPALMATED SANPIPER, and SEMIPALMATED PLOVER.
A WHIMBREL was seen on the 25th flying overhead at Lighthouse Point in Two Harbors, heading southwest down the lakeshore. A SOLITARY SANDPIPER and two SEMIPALMATED SANPIPERS were seen at the ponds near the Two Harbors golf course clubhouse on the same day. BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, LEAST SANDPIPERS, and LESSER YELLOWLEGS were seen at the Castle Danger sewage ponds on the 23rd. Paul Hurtado saw a RED-NECKED GREBE on Lake Superior on the 24th at Silver Creek Cliff.
