This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, November 20th, 2008 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A SNOWY OWL was found by Mike Hendrickson on the 20th in Duluth's Port Terminal near the railroad tracks on Port Terminal Drive. Ben Yokel found a SNOWY OWL on the 16th along US Highway 53 at the Arkola Road (CR 52) in Cotton. Ben’s family also saw a SNOWY OWL in Melrude on the 13th along CR 59 about three miles east of US Highway 53.

Erik Bruhnke relocated the female LONG-TAILED DUCK, two WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, and two SURF SCOTERS on the 14th in the Duluth harbor at the Park Point Recreation Area. On the 18th he saw the first-cycle GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL and a third-cycle GLAUCOUS GULL on the 18th at the Superior landfill. Kim Eckert saw an adult GLAUCOUS GULL on the 16th at Canal Park in Duluth, and it was seen again on the 18th. Mike Hendrickson saw two GLAUCOUS GULLS on the 20th below the Blatnik Bridge at the cement plant near Interstate Island.

Terry Wiens found a late YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER on the 16th at Arrowhead Road and Dunedin Street in Duluth.

Elizabeth and Robert Copper found a GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL on the 13th at the Virginia landfill, which is east of town and north of MN 135.
