This is the Duluth Birding Report for September 22nd, 2014 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

More than 8,500 raptors were counted at Hawk Ridge on the 21st, including more than 7,200 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK. Two SWAINSON'S HAWKS and a GOLDEN EAGLE were counted on the 20th. An AMERICAN AVOCET was reported on the 15th by Clinton Nienhaus on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry.

PARASITIC JAEGERS were reported from Wisconsin Point over the weekend and a POMARINE JAEGER was photographed there on the 17th. A RED KNOT was also seen on the 21st at Wisconsin Point.

An immature LARK BUNTING was found on the 14th by Jason Heinen near the junction of the Gunflint Trail (CR 12) and the Old Gunflint Trail (CR 92) in Cook County. Mike Hendrickson saw a LARK SPARROW on the 17th at a private residence on North Tischer Road north of Duluth. Bob Williams saw a GREAT EGRET on the 18th at the Two Harbors golf course.
