This is the Duluth Birding Report for October 1st, 2015 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

The first-cycle CALIFORNIA GULL that has been seen at Wisconsin Point for the past few weeks was found at the Park Point Recreation Area on the 27th by Jan and Larry Kraemer. Clinton Neinhaus also saw it on the 1st on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry, as well as an adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL and two first-cycle THAYER'S GULLS. John Richardson saw an AMERICAN AVOCET on the 28th on the Minnesota side of the Entry. Peder Svingen saw a ROSS’S GOOSE on the 25th at the Park Point Recreation Area.

Record high totals of 437 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS and 733 GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS were recorded at the Hawk Ridge/Lester River count on the 28th. More than 23,000 AMERICAN ROBINS were also recorded on the 28th, as well as the season's first BOHEMIAN WAXWING.

Alex Lamoreaux and Kaija Gahm saw a VESPER SPARROW on the 26th near the soccer fields along the Riley Road on the north side of Duluth.
