This is the Duluth Birding Report for May 12th, 2016 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
A late TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was found by Marcia Nelson on the 8th near Cadotte Lake in central St. Louis County.
Clinton Nienhaus saw four WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS on the 12th at the dune bridge near the Sky Harbor Airport on Park Point. Larry and Jan Kraemer also saw a WILLET here on the 12th, and a RUDDY DUCK at 43rd Street on the bayside of Park Point. Peder Svingen saw a WHIMBREL and a FRANKLIN'S GULL on the 12th at the Park Point Recreation Area ball fields.
A group of 14 LONG-TAILED DUCKS was seen on the 12th at Burlington Bay in Two Harbors, and two were seen at Castle Danger on the 7th.
Robbye Johnson saw two WESTERN GREBES and three RED-THROATED LOONS on the 12th at Lot #1 on Wisconsin Point.
Recent new arrivals in the area include VIRGINIA RAIL, SORA, and YELLOW WARBLER on the 8th, BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER and GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER on the 9th, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, GRAY CATBIRD, TENNESSEE WARBLER, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, and ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK on the 10th, EASTERN KINGBIRD, LEAST FLYCATCHER, SEDGE WREN, and CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER on the 11th, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, AMERICAN REDSTART, and BALTIMORE ORIOLE on the 12th.
