This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday March 14th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was in Roseville on March 11th. It was found along Cleveland Avenue just south of Ramsey County Road B.
On March 9th, a VARIED THRUSH was seen in with a flock of approximately 25 AMERICAN ROBINS. Don Orken reported the bird in his backyard in Plymouth, Hennepin County. The thrush has not been seen since its initial discovery.
Audrey Evers has a HOARY REDPOLL visiting her feeders in Hoyt Lakes, St. Louis County. She also notes that a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL was calling nearby on the 13th.
Dan Floren found a SNOWY OWL on March 12th along Meeker County Road 11 about five miles west of the town of Litchfield.
The LONG-TAILED DUCK that has been seen in the Duluth harbor all winter was still present on the 10th.
A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was found at Villa Maria in Goodhue County on the 7th.
BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS are being seen in several locations around Duluth and a small group was observed in Ironton, Crow Wing County on the 13th.
More than sixty GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were seen at Rice Lake, Faribault County, on the 12th. In Waseca County another 15 were observed in a marsh north of Mott Lake, and 20 were found on Goose Lake.
I have also received reports of ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, NORTHERN SHRIKE, BROWN CREEPER, EASTERN BLUEBIRD, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD, RUSTY BLACKBIRD, COMMON GRACKLE and COMMON REDPOLL.
