This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, September 19th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

On September 17th there was a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE in Caledonia, Houston County, at the corner of Lincoln and Pine Streets on top of the power substation. And a Eurasian Collared-Dove was heard calling from the Amboy Municipal water tower in Blue Earth County on September 14th.

On the 19th, Conny Brunell was at the Old Cedar Ave Bridge in Bloomington, Hennepin County, and found a CAROLINA WREN. It was on the Bluff Trail about a hundred feet past the first long boardwalk near a downed tree.

On the 12th there were still several species of shorebird at the Jirik Sod Farm in Dakota County, including a RED KNOT. The knot was on the east side of Blaine Avenue in the flooded part of the field. Other birds included a single BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER and an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER. Two Buff-breasted Sandpipers along with 2200 FRANKLIN'S GULLS and seven CASPIAN TERNS were at the Paynesville sewage ponds on September 11th.

Peder Svingen surveyed the shorebirds at Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge on September 15th along Marshall County Road 7l. He found a total of 292 shorebirds. This included three BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, three SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 129 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 72 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, one LEAST SANDPIPER, 22 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, seven STILT SANDPIPERS, and 54 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS.

A record of 747 AMERICAN KESTRELS were counted on the 9th at Hawk Ridge in Duluth, St. Louis County. And 6,699 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS were counted there on the 11th. The first GOLDEN EAGLE of the season passed over the ridge on the 16th.

Other migrants being reported now include AMERICAN PIPIT, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, CONNECTICUT WARBLER - at the north end of Cedar Lake in Minneapolis, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, and LAPLAND LONGSPUR.
