This is the Minnesota Birding Report for November 11th, 2010.
On November 4th, a probable BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING-DUCK was reported by Lee Giesbrecht in Kittson County. The bird's exact location was not noted but it was in a tree on the west side of US Highway 59 about one and a half miles south of Halma.
Chuck Krulas found a female-plumaged HARLEQUIN DUCK on the 7th at the Brule River near the Naniboujou Lodge which is about 14 miles up the shore of Lake Superior from Grand Marais, Cook County.
Cory Gregory and Ashley Casey saw a NORTHERN HAWK OWL in the Sax-Zim Bog on the 5th along McDavitt Road, two and a quarter miles north of the railroad tracks. South of Baudette in Lake of the Woods County, Beth Siverhus saw a NORTHERN HAWK OWL on the 4th near mile marker 49 of state highway 72.
Bob Ekblad found a SUMMER TANAGER in Gonvick in Clearwater County on November 6th. The SUMMER TANAGER in Two Harbors, Lake County, was still present as recently as the 11th along the 100 block of 3rd Avenue. It has also been seen in the alley on the north side of the 200 block of 4th Avenue. And a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was also still in Two Harbors near the intersection of 1st Street and 3rd Avenue. Both these species have been reported by several observers since the 7th from the north side of Fishtrap Lake near Lincoln, Morrison County. They were in a group of crabapple trees along county road 3. On November 9th, Al Schirmacher found a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE at the Ann Lake campground parking lot of Sherburne NWR in Sherburne County.
In McLeod County, a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was still visiting the the home of Bernice and Earl Hall in Hutchinson. At the intersection of state highway 7 and Bluff Street go turn north about four blocks to Ridge Avenue, turn left, then turn south on Hillcrest to the home at 665.
