This is the Minnesota Birding Report for January 5th, 2012.
On December 31st, a BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was along the Mississippi River about a mile south of Minneiska at the Winona-Wabasha county line.
On January 4th, Bart Bly reported a ROSS'S GOOSE on the Mississippi River near Royalton in Benton County.
A first year ICELAND GULL has been at the west end of Black Dog Lake in Bloomington since Steve Carlson found it there on January 1st.
On the 4th, a NORTHERN HAWK OWL was at Gooseberry Falls State Park in Lake County, near the main parking lot and the visitors center.
That TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE which has been at Carpenter Nature Center in Washington County since November 27th was seen again on January 5th.
The VARIED THRUSH visiting the feeders at 6219 East Superior Street in Duluth was seen as recently as January 3rd. Birders are welcome, but are asked to stay between the driveway and the back door.
