This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday August 23rd, 2012.

On August 17th, a PARASITIC JAEGER was reported from the beach at the recreation area of Park Point in Duluth.

Two CAROLINA WRENS were seen on the 22nd by Jeanne Tanamachi in her Lauderdale backyard in Ramsey County. The birds have since been heard in the neighborhood near the intersection of Summer and Pleasant Streets. Another was seen on the 20th by Lance Vrieze in his yard in Rochester, Olmsted County.

On the 21st, a BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE was along Sherburne NWR's Prairie's Edge Wildlife Drive. It was seen just past mile marker 1. RED CROSSBILLS have been moving into the state in good numbers, and they have been reported from the counties of Hennepin, Lincoln, Mower, Polk, St. Louis, and Sherburne. Other recent southbound migrants include DUNLIN, COMMON NIGHTHAWK, OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, WILSON'S WARBLER, CONNECTICUT WARBLER, and HENSLOW'S SPARROW.
