This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday September 26th, 2013.
A juvenile SABINE'S GULL is being seen at the Purgatory Creek Wetlands in Eden Prairie, Hennepin County. It was first reported on the 20th. The wetlands are a quarter of a mile south of state highway 5 on Prairie Center Drive. In Beltrami County, two Sabine's Gulls were reported on the 20th, several hundred yards north Diamond Point at Diamond Point City Park near the Bemidji State University Campus on Lake Bemidji. And another was reported on the 21st from Lower Red Lake in Beltrami County, but I have no additional information. This is the 11th consecutive year that Sabine's Gull has been found in Minnesota, making it a candidate for the state's list of Regular species.
A few PARASITIC JAEGERS can still be be seen on Lake Superior in Duluth, primarily between the recreation area of Park Point and Wisconsin Point. On the 22nd, both a LONG-TAILED JAEGER and a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL were also present.
On the 21st, an early TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was at the General Mills Research Nature Area in Golden Valley, Hennepin County. On the same day, Joel Claus found a very early VARIED THRUSH at Lake Louise State Park in Mower County. It was on the road leading to the picnic grounds about 100 yards from the turnoff.
The next scheduled update is Thursday October 3rd, 2013.
