That SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER reported on last week's tape is still present in Elk River, Sherburne County. Directions are to go east from U.S. highway 10 along 165th Ave for one half mile. Check along the fence line as well as in the large cottonwood trees which line the road. The flycatcher has been associating with at least one WESTERN KINGBIRD and may be attempting to nest.
A PRAIRIE WARBLER was reported by Carol Brysky which she heard then saw along the Canon River bike trail in Goodhue County near mile post 3.
A singing BAIRD'S SPARROW was found on June 7th by Tony Hertzel and Paul Hertzel at the Felton Prairie in Clay County and it was refound the following day by Cole Foster. The bird is apparently on territory about 3.2 miles north of county road 26 along county road 27.
Steve Westen reported finding a female MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD on June 1st at the entrance to Lake Byllesby park in Dakota County, but it is not known if it is still in the area.
Yet another YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER has been reported, this one in south Minneapolis. The bird was seen June 12th on the 5600 block of Pleasant Ave. south, though no further directions were given.
A possible BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was seen at Camden State Park in Lyon County on June 1st, but I have no further directions or information.
On June 9th Bob Janssen found a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT in Lac Qui Parle County. The chat was seen and heard along the Yellow Bank River one mile west of county road 15 along county road 40. Look in the area just to the west of the bridge.
Unusual is the report of a PACIFIC LOON on Lake Leavitt near the town of Outing in Cass County, and the bird has apparently left the area.
Two PIPING PLOVERS were seen by Jay Hamernick in Lake of the Woods County on June 4th at the traditional location at Morris Point.
ACADIAN FLYCATCHERS have been reported from Elm Creek Park in Brooklyn Park Hennepin County, from Seven Mile Creek County Park in Nicollet County and from Frontenac State Park in Wabasha County. And DICKCISSELS have now been reported from several southern counties, arriving rather late this year.
The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday June 19th.
