This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday December 3rd sponsored
by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
On November 28th, at least three EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were found again
in the town of Lynd, Lyon County. They seem to roost in the spruce trees
found on the corner of River Street and St. Albans Street.
A MUTE SWAN and three TRUMPETER SWANS are being seen just west of the town
of Cokato in Wright County, on the north side of U.S. highway 12. A second
MUTE SWAN was reported on December 2nd by Karl Bardon from south of
Waterville in Waseca County. The swan was in a wetland along state highway
13 about a mile south of the junction of Waseca County Roads 62 and 7.
On November 28th, Dan Floren found an OLDSQUAW on the southwest side of
Lake Ripley in the town of Litchfield in Meeker County. On the 22nd, a
HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen by Lucy Hartwell at Robinsons Bay on the east side
of Lake Minnetonka in Hennepin County, but she has not seen it since. And
a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was seen by Charlie Greenman in Garrison Harbor on
Lake Mille Lacs on the November 28th.
A ROSS'S GOOSE was still at Alexander Park in Faribault in Rice County on
the 1st.
Somewhat unusual is the November 29th GREATER YELLOWLEGS seen by Chris
Benson on the west side of Silver Lake in Rochester, Olmsted County.
Two THAYER'S GULLS were seen by Ken Lafond on the north end of Lake Mille
Lacs in Aitkin County on November 28th.
Three NORTHERN SHRIKES were at Carlos Avery Refuge in Anoka County on the
27th, and another was found one mile north and two miles east of the town
of Montrose in Wright County on the 2nd. BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS have been easy
to find all along the shore of Lake Superior as well as at various points
around Lake Mille Lacs. And Bill Longley had a very late OVENBIRD in his
yard on December 1st in Forest Lake, Washington County. I also have
received numerous reports of NORTHERN HARRIERS, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS and
RED-TAILED HAWKS.
