Few reports were received this week, so I'll share just a few sightings.
At Bisson Lake on the north end of Hamden Slough NWR, Becker Co., a few shorebirds are present, including GREATER YELLOWLEGS and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, LEAST SANDPIPERS and PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, MARBLED GODWITS (with young), COMMON SNIPE and WILSON'S PHALAROPE. Quite a number of duck and coot broods are present as well, along with BLACK TERNS.
At Lake Bronson State Park in Kittson Co., birds reported this week include FORSTER'S TERN, SANDHILL CRANE, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS, YELLOW WARBLERS and NORTHERN PARULA and LARK SPARROW.
On the Bog Trail at Lake Bemidji State Park in Beltrami Co., Pat Rice had a CONNECTICUT WARBLER singing (only before 7:00 a.m.)
Jeanie Joppru and Shelley Steva birded in Beltrami Co. on July 1 and found AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, SANDHILL CRANE, ALDER FLYCATCHER and NASHVILLE WARBLER, among more common birds. In Red Lake Co., they found INDIGO BUNTING, SCARLET TANAGER, YELLOW-THROATED VIREO and in Pennington Co. SHORT-EARED OWL.
On June 30th at the Espelie WMA along Marshall CR 54 south of Grygla, Bob Janssen found WHIP-POOR-WILL and WILLOW FLYCATCHER.
At Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge in Becker Co., TRUMPETER SWANS are common - one pair with two cygnets is visible on Balsam Lake two miles west of the visitor center on CR 26 and another pair with 3 cygnets is on South Tamarac Lake on the south end of the refuge.
At the Wetlands, Pines and Prairie Audubon Sanctuary near Warren in Polk Co., Blane Klemek reports that a fairly tame BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE has taken up residence, so if you want to get up close and personal with "Maggie" - that's the place to go.
Thanks also to Doug Johnson, Gladwin Lynne and Mary Wyatt for sharing sightings this week.
