This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, June 5, 2003, sponsored by
the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
RED-THROATED LOONS were seen in Duluth off Minnesota Point on May 31 and
June 1 and at Hovland in Cook County on the 31st. 2 RED KNOTS were on the
beach on the lake side of Minnesota Point on June 1. Another NORTHERN
MOCKINGBIRD was seen today near the city tennis courts in Hoyt Lakes in
northern St. Louis Cty.
Seven species of shorebirds were at the Moose Lake Sewage Ponds over the
weekend. DUNLINS and SANDERLINGS continue to be seen at 40th Ave West and
at Hearding Island in Duluth.
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were at the Embarrass Rice Paddies Wetland on the
28th, at Devil's Track Lake near Grand Marais on the 31st, and at 40th Ave
West in Duluth today.
Unusually late lingering migrants include 2 GADWALL at the Grand Portage
Sewage Ponds on the 1st, and 7 GREATER SCAUP and 1 BUFFLEHEAD today in
Duluth.
The next scheduled update of this report will be on Thursday, June 12.
