This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, July 15, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
Deb Buria-Falkowski reported the first fall migrants in Northeastern Minnesota this week: three LESSER YELLOWLEGS at the Embarrass Rice Paddies on the 10th. She also reported two SOLITARY SANDPIPERS there, and a flock of 12 RED CROSSBILLS in the southern loop of the Big Aspen Ski Trails north of Virginia (in the pines across from the parking lot).
Scott Wolff reported two AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS on the 13th off Minnesota Point on Lake Superior. Scott also reported three Red-throated Loons in alternate plumage, seen about two weeks ago on Lake Superior.
There is a lot of bird activity at present, but not a lot of birder activity, so if there is little to report, it may be two weeks between updates. Nevertheless, the next scheduled update of this report will be on Thursday, July 22.
