This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday May 4th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Wally Swanson reported a WHITE-FACED IBIS on May 3rd. The bird was at the southeast corner of Lake Washington along Blue Earth County Road 2 at its junction with Washington Boulevard. A second White-faced Ibis was seen both May 2nd and 3rd in Faribault County. This bird was discovered by Wayne Setter in section 2 near Pilot Grove Lake southwest the town of Blue Earth. Numerous other shorebirds were also in the area, including HUDSONIAN GODWIT.

There is an interesting April 30th report of a GREAT GRAY OWL from Pine County just east of the town of Finlayson.

Philip Chu and Peder Svingen spent May 1st in western Minnesota and reported the following: in Big Stone County two AMERICAN AVOCETS were at Thielke Lake, and 149 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS and a 56 WILSON'S PHALAROPES were in a flooded field west of Graceville. In Lac Qui Parle County they found a SPOTTED TOWHEE 0.3 miles north of county road 38 along the Louisburg Road, and a SNOWY EGRET along U.S. Highway 75 north of Madison.

There was a SNOWY EGRET at the East Landfill Reservoir in Rochester, Olmsted County on May 2nd.

A pair of LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH was reported from Whitewater State Park in Winona County on April 29th. The birds were heard from the second bridge along the Trout Run Trail in the southern part of the park.

From Clay County on April 25th, Connie Norheim reports that CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPURS have returned to their traditional breeding grounds at the Felton Prairie.

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen April 29th at Carlos Avery Refuge in Anoka County near pool number ten.

I have a secondhand report of both SUMMER TANAGER and EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE from the town of Leota in Nobles County, but I have no further information.

Other reports include GREEN HERON, WHIP-POOR-WILL, COMMON NIGHTHAWK, WILLOW FLYCATCHER, LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE, BLUE-HEADED VIREO, RED-EYED VIREO, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, HOUSE WREN, WOOD THRUSH, more than 20 species of warbler including BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, SCARLET TANAGER, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, INDIGO BUNTING, BOBOLINK, and BALTIMORE ORIOLE. Please note this list is by no means exhaustive.
