This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday November 23rd, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

In Lake County three GREAT GRAY OWLS were seen on the 18th along the Stony River Forest Road south of state highway 1. They were found at distances three, ten, and sixteen miles. A fourth Great Gray was seen along highway 1, two miles southeast of the Spruce Road. A Great Gray Owl was also reported in Cass County on the 18th, three miles north of state highway 200 along highway 8. On the 21st a Great Gray Owl was seen in Itasca County along Alder Road or county road 262, 1/2 mile south of the town of Marcell. A SNOWY OWL was seen by Jenny Shouts near Round Lake in Meeker County on the 18th. And a NORTHERN HAWK OWL was in Itasca County on the 21st, about one mile north of county road 37 along highway 6.

In Minneapolis, Hennepin County, there was an adult GLAUCOUS GULL on Lake Calhoun and an immature Glaucous Gull on Lake Harriet, both on the 22nd.

In Rice County a LONG-TAILED DUCK was seen on Shields Lake on the 18th. The bird was seen from the road on the eastern shore near the Camp Winona Trail.

A Baltimore Oriole was reported by Dianna Gagner of Minnetonka on the 21st. The bird has been coming to her feeder since November 11th.

In Otter Tail County a BROWN THRASHER visited the feeder of Gerald Winkelman of Fergus Falls on November 20th.

A late flock of around 25 SANDHILL CRANES was seen flying over Centerville Lake in Anoka County on November 20th.

On November 20th an immature GOLDEN EAGLE was seen at the junction of Aitkin County roads 1 and 3.

On November 18th, an OSPREY was reported near Lake Minnewashta west of the town of Chanhassen in Carver County.

Unusual was the EARED GREBE seen in Hennepin County on Lake Harriet on November 19th.

An EASTERN TOWHEE has been visiting the backyard of Ron Refsnider in Coon Rapids, Anoka County, since the 19th.

And an amazing 28 NORTHERN CARDINALS were at Elizabeth Bell's feeders in Dakota County on the 19th.
