This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, December 6th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A potential third state record ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD has been identified at a feeder in south Minneapolis. It's visiting a home on Gladstone Avenue south. Please call the Minnesota statewide RBA for specific directions at 763-780-8890. The hummingbird feeder is hanging on the northeast corner of the home owner's garage, and birders are welcome to visit, but are asked to quietly stand in the backyard well to the south of the feeder.

On November 30th, Jim Lind reported a BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE from the Park Point Recreation Area in Duluth. The bird was seen flying from the direction of Superior Wisconsin past the boat landing on the harbor side of the Point. Two days later on December 2nd, Terry Wiens found a kittiwake feeding on a road-kill along northbound interstate 35 in Pine County. This was just south of mile marker 192.

Frank Nicoletti reported a GYRFALCON in Duluth on December 3rd. He watched it hunting Rock Doves near the junction of London Road and 16th Avenue east.

Mike Hendrickson found a first-winter GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL on the 4th at Park Point in Duluth. It was seen in the bay near the Sky Harbor Airport boat ramp. Other birds seen on Park Point on the 4th include a HARLEQUIN DUCK near the public boat ramp, a COMMON LOON in the harbor at the bus turnaround, and a KILLDEER in the fields near the airport. There was another Common Loon in on Silver Lake in Virginia, St. Louis County on the 3rd.

Both LONG-TAILED DUCK and WHITE-WINGED SCOTER were found on November 29th by Paul Pederson at the East Landfill Reservoir west of Rochester in Olmsted County.

An adult GLAUCOUS GULL was on Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis on the 2nd.

There are still a few SNOWY OWL reports coming in. One was seen on November 13th on the south shore of Salt Lake in Lac Qui Parle County. Another was seen on the 21st along state highway 7 about a mile west of the town of Correll in Big Stone County. Also in Big Stone County a Snowy Owl was picked up on November 19th near Hantho Township. Joel Anderson reported a Snowy Owl at the wildlife refuge in the South Bay of Swan Lake, Nicollet County on 16 November. This is near the town of Courtland.

Unusual was the report of several AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS seen in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, on December 6th. They were seen near I-494 and Minnetonka Blvd. And Tom Tustison found a very late LINCOLN'S SPARROW on December 6th at the library in downtown Minneapolis.

On December 4th, Lynn Rogers had a flock of COMMON REDPOLLS visit is feeder in the town of Ely, St. Louis County, and they were accompanied by two HOARY REDPOLLS.

NORTHERN SHRIKES, and WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS are also being reported from several localities across the state.
