This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, September 26th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
A basic-plumaged adult BLACK-HEADED GULL was in Jackson County on both the 20th and 21st on the Minnesota-Iowa state line just east of Jackson County Road 2, on the north side of Spirit Lake. Several GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES were about three miles north of here along state highway 86 on the 21st.
A FERRUGINOUS HAWK was seen on the 21st also in Jackson County about two and a half miles south of Sandy Point County Park on the southwest side of South Heron Lake. On the same day an AMERICAN AVOCET was on the northeast side of the lake.
A SNOW GOOSE was seen September 19th at the junction of state highway 16 and Houston County Road 21 between the towns of LaCrescent and Hokah.
On September 26th, a NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW was seen by Bruce Baer along the Hogback Ridge Trail east of the New Cedar Avenue bridge in Bloomington, Hennepin County. It was on the north side of the trail about seventy-five yards past the bridge.
