This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, December 26th.

The unusual immature gull is still being seen at Black Dog Lake just east of the power plant in Burnsville, Dakota County. There is some indication that this may be a SLATY-BACKED GULL. It is fairly consistently seen near the sandbar just east of the railroad tracks that lead into the plant on the south side of the lake. Also present are an adult GLAUCOUS GULL, an immature ICELAND GULL, and two immature THAYER'S GULLS.

Hank and Caroll Tressell report that the BAND-TAILED PIGEON is still at their home in Hastings, Dakota County. Driving south from Hastings on state highway 316, turn left on 200th (or County Road 68), then right on Quamme, left on 203rd, then left again on Quentin. The home is at 20240 Quentin Avenue East on the right side of the road. The home owners have requested that no one venture into their backyard.

Dave Thurston found a very late FRANKLIN'S GULL in Washington County December 20th on the Minnesota side of the St. Croix River near the town of Prescott, Wisconsin.

The TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE is still being seen in Rice County. On December 21st it was seen in a tree along Albers Avenue about six-tenths of a mile south of County Road 59. Dave Lambeth reports that the Townsend's Solitaire found on the East Grand Forks Christmas Bird Count is still being seen along the Red River about a mile south of the East Grand Forks lagoons.

On the 21st a SHORT-EARED OWL was seen hunting over a field northeast of Salem Corners in Olmsted County. Bob Ekblad observed the bird from the gravel road that goes north from County Road 25 about a mile and a half east of Salem Corners. Short-eared Owls were also reported hunting along the road beside Swenson's Park at Current Lake in Murray County, and along state highway 23 north of Cottonwood in Lyon County.

About two dozen COMMON REDPOLLS were at Cambridge City Park in Cambridge, Isanti County on December 20th.
