That SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER reported on last week's tape is still present in Elk River, Sherburne County. Directions are to go east from U.S. highway 10 along 165th Ave for one half mile. Check along the fence line on the south side of the road as well as in the cottonwood trees which line the north side of the road. The flycatcher has been associating with at least one WESTERN KINGBIRD and is attempting to nest.
What was probably a very late spring migrant though possibly a very early fall migrant STILT SANDPIPER was seen at the Dorer Pools in Whitewater State Park in Winona County on June 18th. Either way it is a record date for this species.
MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD reports continue to come in, which is certainly unusual for this time of year. One was reported on June 15th from Hubbard County. This bird was reported from County Road 1 just north of County Road 18. Another possible MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD was reported in south St. Paul, but the identity of this bird is still in doubt.
MOURNING WARBLERS have been seen in the western section of Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Dakota County this summer, and it certainly is possible that these birds are nesting in the park. Karl Bardon heard what was certainly a late migrant CONNECTICUT WARBLER in North Oaks in Ramsey County on June 19th.
I have a belated May 17th report of a WESTERN TANAGER from near Bald Eagle Lake in Ramsey County. I have no recent information on this observation, however.
