The WHITE-EYED VIREO and HENSLOW'S SPARROW were seen by Nancy Jackson on June 14th at Buffalo River State Park in Clay Co. The vireo remains at the far end of the picnic area parking lot in the trees and shrubs next to the head of the bicycle trail. The sparrows were seen in the prairie area west of the head of the bicycle trail.

Colin Gjervold reported a PRAIRIE FALCON at the Rothsay Prairie in Wilkin Co. on the 9th. The bird was seen in Tanberg Township along the line between sections 19 and 20. This is approximately one mile east of the junction of Co. Rds. 15 and 176.

Jeanie Joppru and Shelley Steva birded in Marshall Co. on the 9th. They found three SHORT-EARED OWLS near the intersection of CRs 12 and 7 at the west edge of the Agassiz NWR. Some other birds reported from Agassiz Refuge were WHIP-POOR-WILL, LE CONTE'S SPARROW, EARED GREBE and AMERICAN BITTERN.

Jeanie Joppru also reported from Pennington Co. on the 10th - BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO and LARK SPARROW.

On June 11, Mary Wyatt and Bob Scherzer found MARBLED GODWIT chicks at the Hamden Slough NWR in Becker Co. They were near the intersection of CRs 13 and 106.

Craig Mandel led a trip to Beltrami Co. and Lake Bemidji State Park June 8-10 and found some interesting species. Highlights included: AMERICAN BITTERN, VIRGINIA RAIL, BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER and LE CONTE'S SPARROW.

Rick Hoyme found a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER in the Lake Alice Bog in Hubbard Co. during the weekend of the 9th and 10th. He also reported a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO from Mahnomen Co.

At the Wetlands, Pines and Prairie Audubon Sanctuary near Warren in Polk Co., Blane Klemek reports a variety of birds present, including WOOD DUCK broods, SANDHILL CRANE, EASTERN BLUEBIRD, EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, SEDGE WREN and GRASSHOPPER SPARROW.

And lastly, I've been asked to let everyone know that the visitor center at Rydell NWR in Polk Co. is now open Thursday through Sunday from 12 noon to 8 p.m. A special program, "Birdwatching for Beginners" will be given by Dr. John Loegering on Sunday, June 17th beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the visitor center.
