The migration continued this week, with good numbers of birds making an appearance a week or two earlier than "normal."

On April 27th, CHIPPING SPARROW, BARN SWALLOW, TREE SWALLOW, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET and PALM WARBLER were in Kittson Co.

On April 28th, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, FIELD SPARROW, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER were found at the Buffalo River State Park in Clay Co. by Mark Otnes; BALTIMORE ORIOLE was reported by Judy and Eddy Edwards in Otter Tail Co. and YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were in Pennington Co., reported by Jeanie Joppru.

On April 30th, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, PALM WARBLER, and YELLOW WARBLER were reported from Beltrami Co. by Doug Johnson. Dorothy Russell found ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER and PALM WARBLER in Polk Co., and at the Crookston Sewage Lagoons she found WESTERN GREBE, RUDDY DUCK, ROSS'S GOOSE, BONAPARTE'S GULL, SPOTTED SANDPIPER and WILSON'S PHALAROPE.

WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, and HARRIS'S SPARROW were reported from several northwestern counties this week, making their way as far as Polk, Pennington and Kittson Counties by May 2nd.

At the Wetlands, Pines and Prairie Audubon Sanctuary in Polk Co. on the 30th, Blane Klemek reported COMMON GOLDENEYE, BROWN THRASHER, SAVANNAH SPARROW and SHORT-EARED OWL.

In Becker Co. on April 30th, the first RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK and BALTIMORE ORIOLE were reported. SCARLET TANAGER arrived on May 1, along with LINCOLN'S SPARROW.

BONAPARTE'S GULL were at the Crookston Sewage Ponds on the 1st and BLUE-HEADED VIREO was at the Cemetary on the 2nd, both in Polk Co.

On May 3, a GREAT GRAY OWL was along Hwy. 1 in Beltrami Co.

At the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge this week, birds reported include AMERICAN BITTERN, COMMON SNIPE, NORTHERN CARDINAL, LEAST FLYCATCHER, MARSH WREN, SEDGE WREN, CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, EVENING GROSBEAK, OVENBIRD, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER and other warblers already reported elsewhere.

At Hamden Slough National Wildlife Refuge, Becker Co., on the 3rd a PEREGRINE FALCON was buzzing ducks on the Frog Pond at the north end of the refuge.

Other birds reported this week included HOUSE WREN, RED-HEADED WOODPECKER in Pennington Co., FORSTER'S TERN in Marshall Co., NORTHERN CARDINAL in Otter Tail Co. YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS as far north as Kittson Co., VESPER SPARROW, EASTERN TOWHEE and ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS also in Kittson Co. and AMERICAN REDSTART in Becker Co.
