A pair of LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES were observed in Western Township in the SW corner of Ottertail County on July 30th by Dan and Sandy Thimgan. The birds were sitting on the power line on the south side of CR 2, two miles west of its intersection with CR 15.

Jeanie Joppru and Shelley Steva birded at Glacial Ridge in Polk County on July 28th. The BAIRD'S SPARROW was still present in the same area of the gravel pit south of U.S. Hwy. 2. (3.5 miles west on U.S. Hwy. 2 from it's junction with State Hwy. 32, then turn south and follow the main (gravel pit) road that goes SE for approximately 1.2 miles. Turn west on the intersecting gravel road for about 1/4 mile and look/listen for the bird in the field to the north) The ladies also observed a SPRAGUE'S PIPIT in this same location, but after it flew, they were not able to relocate it. Other interesting birds observed were YELLOW RAIL, UPLAND SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, WESTERN KINGBIRD and LE CONTE'S SPARROW.

A birder from Cincinnati, David Whiteley, visited over the weekend was found 115 species during his trip, adding 5 to his life list. Highlights included: At Agassiz NWR in Marshall Co., GREATER YELLOWLEGS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, WILSON'S PHALAROPE and SHORT-EARED OWL. At Felton Prairie in Clay County: UPLAND SANDPIPER, LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE, CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR and DICKCISSEL. And at the Rothsay Prairie in Wilkin Co., GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKEN.
