This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, February 27, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

An adult "Kumlien's" ICELAND GULL and several GLAUCOUS GULLS were on the beach at Canal Park on the 23rd.

Warren Nelson found two GREAT GRAY OWLS on Cty Rd 18 on the 23rd. One bird was just east of Pietz's Rd and the other was at the Hebron Cemetery, about 3/4 mile further east. Warren also reported a flock of over 500 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in the town of Aitkin and SNOW BUNTINGS on Cty Rd 12.

BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS were seen again on the 26th in the Sax-Zim area on McDavitt Rd two miles north of the Sax Rd. Tom and Phyllis Mahan found a SHARP-TAILED GROUSE feeding along the second railroad tracks west of Cty Rd 7 at Sax Rd.

A group from Indiana found a variety of winter finches in the Isabella area in Lake Cty, including COMMON REDPOLLS, PINE GROSBEAKS, PINE SISKINS, and EVENING GROSBEAKS. These species have been relatively scarce this winter.
