This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, October 10th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

On the 3rd Drew Smith found a PACIFIC LOON on Black Dog Lake in Bloomington, Hennepin County and it was still present as recently as the 6th. He found it from the observation deck along Black Dog Road.

The fall's first TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was found on October 7th in Sibley County. Denny Martin found it feeding on berries along County Road 11 about 6.7 miles north of the town of Green Isle.

Arriving right on schedule was the LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL seen by Paul Budde on Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis on the 4th.

On the 5th, there were three GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE near the clubhouse at the Two Harbors golf course in Lake County. The golf course is at the east end of town on the north side of Highway 61.

Two SURF SCOTERS were seen by Rick Hoyme on October 3rd at the south end of Island Lake in Itasca County. Island Lake is just south of the Koochiching County line.

As many as twenty-two AMERICAN AVOCETS were seen in Jackson County on the 5th. Bob Williams reported them from Sandy Point County Park which is located on the southwest side of South Heron Lake.

Manley Olson found a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD in Ramsey County on the 8th. The bird was in the southwest corner of the Falcon Heights community park at the junction of Cleveland and Roselawn Avenues.
