This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday September 26th sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Warren Nelson found a ROSS' GOOSE in Aitkin County just south of the town of McGregor at the Rice Lake NWR. On the afternoons of both September 21st and 22nd the bird was in a field on the western edge of the refuge in with a large group of CANADA GEESE and a few SNOW GEESE.

Two WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were on Lake Superior near the French River in St. Louis County. They were found by Mike Hendrickson on September 22nd and may still be in the area.

An AMERICAN AVOCET was seen on September 22nd at Black Dog Lake in Dakota County. David Cahlander found the bird just east of the observation platform in the afternoon, but it was gone the following day. A second AVOCET was reported from the Duluth area, but no specific location or date was given. Six AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS and a LEAST SANDPIPER were at the Black Duck sewage ponds in Beltrami County on September 22nd, a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was at the Lewiston sewage ponds in Winona County, also on the 22nd and SANDERLINGS were reported from Duluth also on the 22nd.

Jason Weckstein reported a light morph adult PARASITIC JAEGER at the end of Minnesota Point in Duluth on the 21st. What was probably the same individual was reported the same day by other birders as well. Other migrants reported over the past week include FRANKLIN'S GULL, CASPIAN TERN, AMERICAN PIPIT, SOLITARY VIREO, plus NASHVILLE, CANADA and YELLOW- RUMPED WARBLERS. Dick Gillmer spotted a late MOURNING WARBLER at the Old Cedar Ave Bridge on September 20th, and a BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER at Roberts Sanctuary on the 21st.
