The stretch of state highway 3 in Dakota County from 280th Street south to 297th Street south has been very productive for shorebirds recently. Look especially on the west side of this road for reported AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, STILT SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, and LEAST SANDPIPER. A RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was reported on August 23rd from the St. Peter sewage ponds which are located in Le Sueur County. At Hamden Slough in Becker County Shelly Steva reported that many shorebirds are visiting an area about a mile north of the headquarters. Species seen here include LESSER YELLOWLEGS, PECTORAL SANDPIPER and the first LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER reported this fall. And the Breckenridge sewage lagoons in Clay County reportedly also have many shorebirds, including BLACK- BELLIED PLOVER, LESSER YELLOWLEGS and BAIRD'S SANDPIPER.

Many people have reported migrant COMMON NIGHTHAWKS, and large flocks of birds have been observed mostly during the evening hours in Hennepin, Kanabec, Cass and Dakota Counties.

Chet Meyers reported on August 22nd that Roberts' Sanctuary in Minneapolis has had good numbers of migrant warblers recently. Species found there include AMERICAN REDSTART, TENNESSEE WARBLER, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, and NASHVILLE WARBLER.

Unusual was the flock of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS found by Lane Elwanger on August 27th at the Bass Ponds area of Hennepin County. The birds were last seen near the trail head.
