A BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was seen by Kim Eckert in the Grand Marais harbor in Cook County on November 2nd. Check along the Lake Superior shore near the campground. Other birds seen in this general area were a HARLEQUIN DUCK and an ICELAND GULL.

As is expected at this time of year TUNDRA SWANS are showing up in numbers and several reports have been called in since last week. On the 4th several TUNDRA SWANS were seen on Lake Harriet and also on Cedar Lake in Hennepin County. Close to 400 were seen near the town of Minneiska in Wabasha County on the 6th. About 300 plus a single TRUMPETER SWAN were seen near the town of Weaver along the Mississippi River in Wabasha County on the 1st. Estimates of up to 700 swans were counted farther south along the river near the Iowa border on the same day. Six Trumpeters were reported November 5th in Renville County on Boon Lake.

Three WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were reported from just north of the Reads Landing area in Wabasha County on November 4th.

On November 4th Ray Glassel found a ROSS' GOOSE at Helmer-Meyer Park in Freeborn County.

That juvenile CATTLE EGRET is still being seen at the Old Cedar Ave Bridge area in Bloomington. Check along the Minnesota River. On November 1st an EASTERN PHOEBE was also seen here.

Interesting is the somewhat late SORA found at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Carver County on October 30.

Late shorebirds include PECTORAL SANDPIPER and a DUNLIN seen November 3rd by Peder Svingen at Lake Winnibigoshish in northern Minnesota. On November 5 Craig Mandel reported the following shorebirds from the Boon Lake WMA in Meeker County, one KILLDEER, one GREATER YELLOWLEGS, one LESSER YELLOWLEGS, one PECTORAL SANDPIPER, seven DUNLIN and forty COMMON SNIPE. This area is along Meeker County Road 12 just west of Renville County Road 24. Jeanie Joppru reported an AMERICAN WOODCOCK on November 1st near Thief River Falls, Pennington County.

A LONG-EARED OWL was reported November 5th from the Dayton Bluff area of St. Paul in Ramsey County. Another Long-eared was reported from Patrick Eagan Park in the town of Eagan. This is on Lexington Ave about half a mile north of Diffley Road.

A few SMITH'S LONGSPUR were reported in with a flock of LAPLAND LONGSPURS on November 2nd along highway 82 two miles west of the town of Ashby in Otter Tail County.

Winter finches are being reported from across the state and in good numbers. I have reports of PINE SISKINS from Fillmore County. COMMON REDPOLLS have been seen in Pennington, Washington and Becker counties. WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen in Ramsey and Renville counties. RED CROSSBILLS were found October 23rd at Tamarac NWR in Becker County, EVENING GROSBEAKS were reported from Pennington County. And PINE GROSBEAKS have been reported across the northern part of the state.
