Following reports of 65 Marbled Godwits, small flocks of Whimbrels, and
other shorebirds yesterday in Duluth, I decided to look for Whimbrel and
godwits along the North Shore of Lake Superior.
At the mouth of the Knife River, I found 22 Whimbrel, 4 Marbled Godwits, 1
Ruddy Turnstone, 1 Red Knot, and a few peeps. Killdeer, both yellowlegs,
and Solitary, Spotted, and Pectoral Sandpipers were at the Beaver Bay
sewage ponds for a total of 12 species in Lake County this morning.
