We have had several interesting birds sightings near the south shore of
Gunflint Lake recently. The first is the pine siskins, which have been
regular visitors to the nearby thistle feeders in the past several
weeks.
Over the past week, I have had at least one rose-breasted grosbeak
visiting my sunflower seed feeder. There could be more than one, but I
have only seen one at a time.
Yesterday, we had a pair of Baltimore orioles arrive at our hummingbird
feeders. Later in the day, I nailed orange halves to a hanging feeder,
which they have also taken great interest in. They are still here
today.
The other birds which are in the area are the ruby-throated hummingbird,
purple finch, American goldfinch, red-winged blackbird, common grackle,
gray jay, blue jay, red-breasted nuthatch, black-capped chickadee,
American crow, common raven, white-throated sparrow, chipping sparrow,
hairy woodpecker, downy woodpecker, pileated woodpecker, common
goldeneye, bufflehead, common loon, mallard, and the common merganser.
