Off 24th street on Minnesota Avenue you can view the south side sand =
spit of Herding Island and here I saw the 2nd summer Greater =
Black-backed Gull and the first winter Greater Black-backed Gull. The =
first winter Greater Black-backed Gull was originally found by me on =
Herding Island while participating on the birdathon and it was nice to =
get more notes for documentation.=20
Also on Saturday there were 3 Jaeger sightings on Lake Superior. None of =
the jaegers were identified as what species they were and this is the =
time of the year to watch for Long-tailed Jaegers!
Anyway the birdathon was fun and being up for 36 hours is not fun! We =
came in 2nd and the best team won. I bailed out of the race at 7:00ish =
and decided enough was enough! Hopefully next year the temps are in the =
70's and the winds are calm all day! Doing a birdathon with strong gusts =
off the lake and driving rain is not fun! Temps in the upper 30's to =
high mid 40's was tiring.
