  The May 30 Star-Tribune had an obituary for Josephene Herz who died in 
Green Valley AZ on May 14 at age 96.More many years Jo was a significant 
figure in Minnesota birding.She was one of the editors,along with Walter 
Breckenridge and Ken Morrison, of Where To Find Birds In 
Miinnesota.First published in 1950,this was one of the first guides to 
places to find birds,even predating Pettingill. From her home on 
Christmas Lake and the Excelsior Christmas count,her birding activity 
 became world-wide in an era prior to the advent of the organized bird 
tours of today.
