This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

The potential first state record SLATY-BACKED GULL found in the Grand
Marais harbor on July 21st has been seen every day since, including
today. It has been seen mainly on the lawn and beach in front of the
East Bay or Shoreline Motels or on the marina breakwall within the inner
harbor, in front of the North House Folk School.
Three GREAT EGRETS were seen at the 40th Avenue West impoundments in
Duluth on the 1st. Two SANDHILL CRANES were found on July 30th by Kim
Homick along the Schultz Road north of Duluth. Several observers noted a
movement of migrating passerines along the North Shore on the morning of
the 1st.
Linda and John Frederick relocated the NORTHERN HAWK OWL in Itasca
County on July 22nd along MN Highway 65, 3.6 miles north of County Road
53.
