This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, February 23rd.

On February 23rd, Ron Erpelding found a PRAIRIE FALCON in =20
northwestern Rock County. It was perched on a power pole on the east =20=

side of Rock County Road 6 between 221st and 211th Streets. Though =20
the bird was seen to fly off, it was seen a short time later about a =20
mile to the south.

A NORTHERN HAWK OWL is still on McDavitt Road north of the railroad =20
tracks in the Sax-Zim bog of St. Louis County. On February 17th a =20
Northern Hawk Owl was found in Lake County along state highway 61 =20
near mile marker 66, just a bit north-east from the Little Marais =20
River. Sherry Phillips saw a Northern Hawk Owl on the 16th on St. =20
Louis County Road 110, one mile south of the Skibo Vista overlook. =20
This is about ten miles south of Hoyt Lakes. Four Northern Hawk Owls =20
were found by Nancy Jackson along St. Louis County Road 110 just =20
south of Hoyt Lakes on the 12th. In Itasca County, a Northern Hawk =20
Owl was found by Shawn Conrad on the 22nd, six miles north of Deer =20
River on state highway 6 and two more in Koochiching County =96- one at =20=

the intersection of county roads 22 and 71, and a second on county =20
road 32 six miles west of 11. In Itasca County, Denny and Barb found =20
a Northern Hawk Owl along state highway 65, 3.8 miles north of county =20=

road 53 on the 20th.

A GREAT GRAY OWL was on Koochiching County Road 30, 6.5 miles west of =20=

U.S. 71 near Big Falls.

In Crow Wing County, Milton Blomberg reports a SNOWY OWL east of =20
state highway 6 on county road 11 on February 20th. At least two =20
Snowys were still at the Minneapolis - St. Paul airport on the 22nd.

At the Beaver Creek WMA in Fillmore County, Craig Mandel reports that =20=

on February 20th there were six SHORT-EARED OWLS. To reach this =20
location from highway 63, go two miles west on county road 26, then =20
approximately three-quarters of a mile south and look for a group of =20
small coniferous trees on the east side of the road at the parking lot.

Over the weekend, Shawn Conrad reported an AMERICAN THREE-TOED =20
WOODPECKER along Koochiching County Road 13, eight miles north of US =20
Highway 71.

Jim Lind relocated the VARIED THRUSH at 4th Avenue and 1st Street in =20
downtown Two Harbors, Lake County on the 18th.

A SPOTTED TOWHEE has been coming to a feeder near Cook, St. Louis =20
County, since before Thanksgiving. The homeowners are open to having =20
visitors, but they would like people to call ahead of time. For more =20
information, please contact Cedric and Eunice Roivanen at 218-666-5318.

The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday, March 2nd.

Thanks also to Joel Hessen.
