This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, May 4th.

A WHITE-FACED IBIS is being seen in the extreme southwest corner of
Otter Tail County in Western Township. Directions are to drive south
from the city of Fergus Falls on county road 15 for approximately
sixteen miles until the highway intersects 110th St. Turn right and
go just a little over two miles and check the south side of the road
for standing water.

On April 27th, Tom Will reported at least two, and possibly three,
BURROWING OWLS at Glacial Ridge NWR. Drive west on Polk County Road
45 from U.S. Highway 2 in the town of Mentor. After crossing State
Highway 32, drive 3.3 miles. The owls were about a mile to a mile-
half north of the railroad tracks that parallel County Road 45.

On the 30th, Patrick Beauzay found an apparent first-winter
CALIFORNIA GULL in a large area of standing water about two miles
east of the Bluestem Prairie SNA on 17th street. This is about one-
and-a-half miles north of the Clay County sanitary landfill.

On the 1st, a SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was on state highway 9 just
north of Downer in Clay County on the east side of the road. It was
also seen along the next gravel road to the east.

On the 29th, a CATTLE EGRET was along Carver County Road 45 just
across the river from the town of Jordan. It was in a flooded field
on the right side of the road. Another was near the south end of Pool
#10 at Carlos Avery WMA in Anoka County on the 2nd.

A SNOWY EGRET was seen May 2nd at the 180th Street marsh in Dakota
County, about four miles east of U.S. Highway 52. What may have been
the same bird was at Lake Byllesby in Dakota County on the 3rd.

On the 4th, Carole Brysky found a LITTLE BLUE HERON near the end of
the Sand Point trail in Frontenac State Park, Goodhue County.

On April 30th, Jim Mattsson found a RED-THROATED LOON at Lake
Byllesby in the bay just east of the cemetery.

On May 1st, a SNOWY OWL was seen by Mark Junghans in Garrison, Crow
Wing County, on the rock wall by Mille Lacs Lake.

On April 30th, Michelle McDowell, found a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD near
the maintenace area of Rice Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Aitkin
County.

On April 30th, Craig Mandel reported a male WESTERN TANAGER at the
Williams Nature Center west of Mankato in Blue Earth County. Walk the
Vollmer trail and look near the north overlook.

On May 3rd, Brian Smith reported a GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE in Sleepy
Eye, Brown County. Check the holding pond behind the hardware store
along U.S. Highway 14 on the eastern edge of town.

The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday, May 11th.
