1930SummerThe only Barred Owl's nest seen was one discovered by Ralph Woolsey near Shakopee, on April 13th. The contents were three eggs, all of which hatched on the 17th.
1932SummerOn July 11th I ran ncress a far.1ily of Bc.rred Owls at Sturgeon L.'1ke. The young were full grown.
1933Summer Th.'ree nests of the Barred Owl, whose eerie noc,turnal ululations havo struck texTor into the hearts of many a (~rcdulous person and cowering rodent, were found this year. The fj~st, located by Stein on March 24th, contained.3 eggs. It wa!! later deserted. '!'he second, found by stein and the writer on l·fu.rch.3oth• con• tained 2 eggs, and the last, discov~ed by th(~ writer on April 21st, held 2 eggs. All of these nests were ill the vicinity of .Shakopee.
1934Summer Two nests found near st. Cloud are interesting not only because they nrc the earliest ttnd latest recorded but also booo.uso they were both opon nests. On April 2nd, Hanson and Hiemenz located a nest with 2 young about a vel3k old. A nest with 2 young almost ready to fly was found by Hanson on May 5th.
1935Summer Robert Haas, Horace Paul, Risser and Turner were wa.lldng among some largo trees at Frontenac May 25th when Paul spotted a half-grown downy Barred Owl standing outside its nest hole, 15 feet above.the ground in a big tree trunk. Risser, always adventurous, climbed to tho holo and found 2 more young inside. The parent birds both flew and perch ed within 100 feet of the observers, hooting and howling nll tho time in protest. At Lake Minnetonka June 5th, Mrs. F.ra.nklin Crosby, Jr. pointed out another half-grow Barred Owl to the bird class.
1938SummerR. M. Berthel found one young Barred Owl in Houston Coun­ty on June r r; it was just able to fly.
1945WinterPresent throughout the year.
1961SpringOle Finseth heard one calling at Chub Lake near Carlton, during two weekends in March. Jan Green saw one in Duluth on 4 May. Gordon Gullion saw one on 7 April at the Cloquet Forest Research Station. Dr. Rysgaard saw one at Vasa, Goodhue County on 10 May. Long-eared Owl seen 17 April at Duluth by Jan and John Green. Two adults and four young found in nest in Hennepin County by R. Grant on 9 May.
1961SummerOn 12 July Dean Honetschlager observed three young in May Township, Washington County.
1961FallOne seen 8 Nov. and another 24 Nov., both in downtown Duluth. Pictures appeared in Duluth News-Tribune. A. C. Rosenwinkel saw one at Lake Vadnais, Ramsey County on 11 Nov.

GR.EAT GRAY OWL One reported on the Sax-Cotton Christmas Count, and what was possibly the same bird was at Canyon on 12-26 and at Meadowlands on 1-26 (TS); one at 1-16 in Lakewood Twp., St. Louis Co. and another on 1-19 at Greenwood L. in Lake Co. (G. Olson).

1982Winter Reported from 20 counties throughout the state with the exception of the central and SW regions. Two reports from the western prairies, Clay 12/30 (LCF) and Wilkin 1/17 (PKL).

1983Summer Breeding data from Becker, Hubbard, Cass, Pine. Seen in 14 other counties east of a diagonal from Mower and LeSueur to Kittson.

1983Winter Probably the most reports ever; about 63 individuals in 16 north and 18 south counties. Peak of 10 on the St. Paul NE CBC. Most common in the east central, north central and northeast regions. Western reports from Clay, 12-17 (LCF), Stevens, 12 (RBJ) and Lyon, December and mid January (HK).

2004Spring Observed in 21 south and 11 north counties as far southwest as Lac qui Parle, Yellow Medicine. No reports from usual range in Northwest region. Surveys in Northeast 3/15–31 detected 14 birds (15 during same period last year) WHL.
2004Summer Lowest number of reports since 1991: reported from nine north and eight south counties, including 6/25
2004Fall Observed in 11 north and 12 south counties within usual range. Number of reports almost identical to last fall.
2004Winter Reported from 14 north and 14 south counties. Rare leucistic individual banded and photographed in St. Louis (Duluth) fide PHS.
2005Spring Observed in 20 south and 15 north counties as far southwest as Cottonwood and Jackson. Highest reported count 5/29 Houston (11 in Houston Twp.) AXH, PHS.
2005Summer Continuing downward trend: detected in six north and nine south counties.
2005Fall Observed in 13 north and 15 south counties including 8/23 Lincoln (West Twin L.) BJU.
2005Winter CBC total of 45 birds on 19 counts. Non-CBC reports of about nine individuals in 9 north counties and 15 birds in 12 south counties.
2006Spring Observed in 21 south and 18 north counties as far southwest as Lac qui Parle, Yellow Medicine, Redwood. High count 5/19 Todd (12) BWF et al.
2006Summer Observed in 26 counties in all regions except Northwest, Southwest.

2007Winter1020 Reports spanned the season and were concentrated in the central and eastern regions, with the majority coming from the southern regions as usual. The only reports from the western regions were on the Battle Lake and Fergus Falls CBCs, both in Otter Tail County. CBC high count Austin (10).
2008Spring1627 Observed in all regions of the state as far northwest as Clearwater and as far southwest as Brown. High count 5/15 Sibley (10 along Minnesota River) WCM.
2008Summer1013 Found in all regions except North-west, Northeast.
2008Fall1318 Observed throughout the season in all regions of the state as far southwest as Brown.
2008Winter819 An impressive 21 tallied 12/8 Stearns (Cold Spring) MDN. Statewide, 38 recorded on CBCs which is equal to 20–year average. None reported north of a line from Carlton to Clay counties.
2009Spring1827 Reported throughout the season in all regions of the state except the far southwest.
