1930SummerSeveral nests of this species were located, the first, containing one egg, near Shakopee on May 22nd by Stanley Stein and Leander Fischer. The latest, two at Crystal Lake, one with one egg, ·the other with three young, on June 26th (Marius Morse). Young were awing at Harriet on July 15th.
1931SummerTl-ro eggs June 7th (Swedenborg), three eggs June 3rd (Risser.), and six nests with one to three eggs on June 14th by Woolsey, Stanley Stein and I~eander Fischer).
1932Summer17 nests of the Black Tern were found, the first on ~~Y 28 with 3 eggs (Dobie at Swru1 Lake), and the last on June 17 with 2 a:ad 3 c.ggs (Evans & Risser in Polk Co.)
1933Summer Of the many nests and colonies observed, Cummins roports tho earliest for this species. He located 3 nests at Fort Snelling on l4ay 24th, when they contained 1 egg each. The last nest with eggs · was observed by Stein and tho writer near Detroit Lakes on Juno 19th. Risser reports young "still mostly in the down" nt Sturgeon Lake on July 28th.
1934Summer Risser and DuToit reported tho first nest of this bird for the Twin City area, found on June Jrd, at which timo it hold 2 eggs. On the same date Woolsey found several.nests ncar Vergas, OOJltitaining 2 and 3 eggs. A colony of 100 pairs, near St. Cloud, was visited by Hanson and Hiemenz on ·June 12th. "Three nests held 3 eggs each and 2 nests hold ono egg each. Many nests with incubating birds were nlfiO seen.11 On June 19th H!lllson foUnd many nests with *'fresh eggs 1;o young" at take Winnibigoshish.
1935Summer Prosser and Swedenborg saw 2 nests contQining 2 and 3 eggs on June 8th. Evans and Upson found the latest nest on July 4th. They saw 1 nest with 2 eggs, and 2 nests with 3 eggs.
1936Summer Tumor and Upson located.a nest containing ~:mo egg on May 27th. At Lake Independence on JUly 5th, Dr. Swedcnborg located a nest of throe eggs.
1937SummerA short-tailed terns' colony near Minneapolis was visited on May 27 by Upson, when only one nest held I egg. D. Struthers visited the same colony on May 29, when three eggs were in one nest, and two other nests held one egg each.
1938SummerBob Upson found the first nest of this species at Minneapolis on May 26--7 nests I-3 eggs each. On May 3I, same locality, he found a nest built on a floating plank. Struthers found 2 eggs at Minneapolis on June 4; Owre and Up­son discovered many nests in Beltrami County on June 12; vandals had destroy­ed the eggs and young. Several nests were found at Swan Lake in Nicollet County by G. Swanson on June 17. On July 17, Arnold Erickson found one young floating on a piece of wood in Pearl Lake, Stearns County. Adults were feeding the young bird.
1940SummerIn St. Paul on Mav 29, Rhoda Green found a nest built of reeds which held 3 eggs. C. Hero saw a nest with 2 eggs on Minnesota Point on June 20. The author noted 6 nests at Sand Lake, Minnesota. All were on floatin3 ma~ses of vegetation and aver­aged 3 eggs each. In some cases young were hatching; they were banded as soon as they attempted to enter the water. A. D. DuBois saw several nests at Lake Minnetonka on June 3, mainly with 3 eggs.

1944Summer30. May 20, one egg, St. Paul, Olson. June 19 and June 20, three nests with three eggs each, Hoi­stead and Olson. Others found by East­man, Brother Hubert and Brother Pius, and Olson.
