1930SummerAlden Risser found the only nest reported of this species, at, Frontenac, June 21st, with four eggs. Scarlet Tanager; No nest was found but the writer saw a young bird being fed near Excelsior on Juno 4th.
1931SummerHarius Horse reports two nests of this interesting species. The first contained four dickcissel eggs and one of the cowbird on July 13th and the other contained five eggs on July.31st.
1933Summer That this nomad appeared in such nuobers as to mAke 1933 a "Dickcissel Year" is evinced by the numerous reports of its abundance which have cooe fron many parts of the state. Six nests wore reported. Grir.1es found a nest in Pennington County on June 23rd, when it held 1 egg..Another nest vrhich he found on the 24th held 3 eggs. Hieruenz found a nest on July 6th near Piertz which contained 3 hatching eggs and a Brown-headed Cowbird egg. Swedenborg reports young out of tho nest being fed on July 8th (near Minneapolis). Risser found tho bird nesting ip the Ca.na":'dinn Zone at Sturgeon ~~e, where he discovered a nest containing 3 eggs on July 1st. This occurence is nost interesting onc1 unexpected.
1934Summer A1though this was not a "Dickcissel year11, Hianenz managed to locate five nests of this species in one day, near Pierz, on July 5th. "The contents were as follows: 3 large young and 1 n.ddled egg; 3 eggs; 4 eggs; 2 f'resh eggs; and 1 egg. The nests \-tore all placed in bushes or weeds from 10 inches to ~feet from the ground. There also were two pai~s present with young just out of the nest and barely able to fly. 11 ~o other nests were reported.
1936Summer The onJ.y repo-rts were those of' Mrs. C. E. Peterson. At Lac quiParle on July 28th she saw three young out of' nest. Again on August 5th she observed adults feeding young out of nest.
1938SummerBetween' Worthington and the Dakota line Mr. Berthel saw 30 Black-Throated Buntings on June 15; they were seen less frequently as he traveled northward. They were probably nesting in the region.
1940SummerA nest with 2 eggs was found on June I9 by Harrell and Longley near St. Paul. The T. S. Roberts Club observed 2 nests, only one of which was successfuJ. It contained 3 eggs and a cowbird's egg on June 25.

1961SummerOn 9 to 20 June Dean Honetschlager found a male singing over alfalfa field in Washington County. Another was seen near Donnelly, Stevens County on 17 June by Del Holdgrafer. Several seen on 10 June south of Hastings, Dakota County by Huber brothers.
1962SpringMay 20 Eden Prairie, Hennepin Co., Bob Janssen; May 26 East Union, Carver Co., Bob Janssen; May 27 numerous throughout southwestern Minnesota, Avifaunal Club. Evening Grosbeak; Mrs. Paul G. Kief reports several in Montevideo, Chippewa Oo., from February 17 until April 2. Mrs. Lee E. Payne of Willmar, Kandiyohi Co., reports that a flock spent all of March at her feeder. Mrs. Allan had them at her feeder in Ramsey Co., until May 12. Ray Naddy saw them at Duluth as late as May 31.

Nested in Aitkin (WN), well north of usual range; despite abundance, no other nesting records.

1999Summer Reported in 26 southern counties, plus Traverse. Lack of northern reports implies that the population is at an ebb in its erratic cycle, for the third consecutive year; however, several observers reported increased numbers.

2000Summer An irruptive year; twice the number of reports compared to the previous three years (the largest peak in recent years occurred in 1988, with a lesser peak in 1995). Observed in 54 counties as far north as a line through Polk, Red Lake, Crow Wing, Kanabec.
2000Fall After numerous summer reports of this irruptive species, only fall report: 8/12 Hennepin SLC.
2001Spring All reports: 5/12 Stearns RPR, 5/28 Murray NED, Blue Earth ChH and Olmsted PWP, 5/29 Lyon RJS.
2001Summer Relatively few reports, similar to 1997–1999. Seen in 27 counties as far north as a line through Polk, Red Lake, Cass, Crow Wing, Dakota.

2002Summer Reported from 48 counties, rivalling the recent peaks of 1995 and 2000 but falling well short of the huge irruption in 1988 (73 counties); seen as far north as a line through Polk, Red Lake, Wadena, Morrison, and Pine counties .
