1932SummerTh~ only nest of this little creature was found by Curl Olson on May 1st, when it contained downy young not more than 3 days old.
1933Summer Two Eastern Screech-Owl nests were found, both at Miru1eapolis. Eisele ~1d Dow.noy discovered 3 young about half-grown in one of those on J~~c 12th. Tho other nest was found by Upson on Juno 14th and contained 3 large young.
1934Summer To Hanson goes the honor for findint; both the eo.rl:iE~st and the latest nests of th:j.s little mcuser. On the 3rd of May he discovered a nest with 3 eggs and a month later, on the 3rd of June, he found a nest vdth young. Both of' these vero near St. Clt;,ud.
1935Summer Acting as instructor to the bird olass, Brecl,enridge discovered and pointed out to the class a Eastern Screech-Owl sitting in the entrance of a nest hole. This occurred at Coon Creek Hay 27th. Rysgaard sa"' the only 2 young reported,on June 9th. They had just left the nest.
1937SummerOn April 2o, 3 eggs were counted in a hole in a tree in which an adult screech owl brooded; it obligingly climbed up Upson's wrist when he put his arm in the tree, so that he could find all t!Je eggs..
1938SummerK: Carlander and B::>b Upson found the first nest of this little Owl on March 30 at Minneapolis. The eggs were situated in a hollow tree. On April 3, also at Minneapolis, E. D. Swedenborg found a nest with 4 eggs; on May I3 when Upson and Struthers examined this nest, it held 3 eggs and one newly-hatched young. Finally, on June 15 at Plainview, Don Mahle saw 3 half­ grown young in the gray phase.

1961SpringR. Grant found one young just out of the nest about the second week of May in Hennepin County just north of Minneapofis. Great Horned Owl. R. Grant reports a female incubating in Anoka County on 23 March. Heard 9 March by Gordon Gullion at the Cloquet Forest Research Station. William Pieper reports adult with two young at the Dorer Pools.
1961SummerForest Strnad found two nests with four eggs each near Claremont, Dodge County on 26 April. R. Grant found an adult with 2 young, Hennepin Co., on May 28.

Grant; Feb 28, Eden Prairie, Hennepin Co., Mpls Audubon Society. G1·eat Horned Owl: Nov 15, Harrison Township, Kandiyohi Co., a very white individual, possibly subarcticus, was collected and sent to the Minnesota Museum of Natural History. In the Fall Report, I listed three possible reports of subarcticus, only one of which (Olyphant) seemed reasonably certain. Now, however, after seeing photographs of her bird, there is the possibility that it was scalariventris. Many specimens in many museums stand incorrectly under the name subarcticus when they are actually scalariventris.

No reports from the West-central or far southwestern counties. This was also the first year of no north reports (including CBCs) for the winter season since 1988–1989. CBC high count Rochester (4). Probably overwintered 12/1–2/29 Ramsey AXH (gray morph). All other reports: Blue Earth, Dakota (gray morph MAO, JPM, ADS), Freeborn, Hennepin, Houston (brown morph FZL), and McLeod (gray morph DMF).

2013Winter All north reports: 12/21 Todd (gray morph) BEc and 1/30 Crow Wing (gray morph) ph. JPR. Number of reports south was about average for the previous five winters, and confined within an arc from Jackson north to Meeker, east to Ramsey, and south to Houston. Few of the approximately 25 reported individuals included color morph details. Besides those mentioned above, gray birds also reported from Brown DWr and Watonwan RAE. The only red morph was a bird that overwintered in Wright ToL. An intermediate red-gray bird overwintered for the ninth consecutive year in Ramsey AXH. One CBC report 12/14 New Ulm (2).
